Job Description
  • Located in the heart of Sydney's CBD (Martin Place)

The Law Society of New South Wales is looking for an Administration Officer to join its Policy and Practice Department on a full-time fixed-term basis for 12 months.

About the team

The Policy and Practice Department researches and advises on issues relating to legal practice, policy, and law reform. The Department supports 18 policy committees and has responsibility for major legal policy projects. You will support the work of the Department by providing administrative assistance.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide support for administration of committees, including preparing agendas and arranging venue and catering for committee meetings
  • Administrative support to the Director and staff
  • Maintenance of current tasks and submissions and tracking documents
  • Compilation of departmental reports and schedules (e.g., reports to Council, annual reports, annual meeting schedule)
  • Filing and records maintenance (including document registers and SharePoint)
  • Website entries and updates
  • Responding to telephone enquiries from internal and external customers, including legal practitioners, and referring queries as appropriate
  • Other administrative tasks and ad hoc work as required

About you

  • Strong and proven administrative skills
  • Advanced office software skills, including Microsoft Office suite, such as Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • High-level appreciation of, and commitment to, customer service
  • Experience in working within short timeframes and in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with Foxit PDF editor (desirable)
  • Previous exposure to working with committees or in a legal environment (desirable)
  • Commitment to quality system improvements
  • Sound oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work and participate constructively as a team member
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to demonstrate initiative
  • Displays integrity and willingness to comply with the Law Society's confidentiality requirements
  • Ability to adapt to a changing and flexible work environment
  • Willingness to work out of hours to attend committee meetings
  • Displays a commitment to quality client service
