About this position

The Animal Management Officer supports the delivery of animal management services to the community. These services are provided both through the education of the community on responsible pet ownership and through the administration of Council's functions under the provisions of the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and delivery of the Council's Domestic Animal Management Plan.

The Animal Management Officer provides high-level customer service and manages the registration of pets within the municipality. They educate and enforce compliance with legislation, collect lost, stray and abandoned animals, and provide animal welfare services within the City of Melbourne.

  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, including the ability to remain calm, objective and in control when communicating, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply relevant legislation and corporate procedures and policies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare detailed and accurate reports, including briefs of evidence, legal documentation, and correspondence.
  • Excellent customer service skills and an ability to deal with customers at all levels in a tactful and courteous manner.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to a dynamic work environment with a flexible and positive approach to change, and personal learning and development.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours as required.
