Assistant Controller

About the Company:
We are a growing, private equity-backed construction services firm seeking a driven and detail-oriented accounting professional to support our expanding financial operations. As we scale, we are focused on building a strong, GAAP-compliant accounting infrastructure and enhancing financial processes.

Position Overview:
The Assistant Controller will play a key role in overseeing core accounting functions, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring the integrity of financial data. This role is ideal for a hands-on accountant ready to step into a leadership position, partnering closely with senior finance leaders to enhance accounting policies, streamline workflows, and support compliance efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Close & Reporting: Oversee month-end close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting. Maintain checklists and approval documentation to enhance efficiency.
  • Technical Accounting & Compliance: Manage key areas such as lease accounting (ASC 842), percentage of completion revenue recognition, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Balance Sheet & Fixed Assets: Maintain and improve processes for fixed asset accounting, prepaid assets, and depreciation schedules.
  • Process Improvement: Collaborate with finance and accounting teams across multiple locations to standardize procedures and enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Audit & Internal Controls: Support audit processes and implement best practices to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with internal policies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, including financial close responsibilities
  • Experience with construction or project-based accounting, particularly percentage of completion
  • Proficiency in financial systems; familiarity with QuickBooks, ViewPoint Spectrum, or Sage is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments
