Responsibilities and Duties
    Administer, supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the outdoor recreation program with the Coordinator-Outdoor Programs, including management of a 5,000 square foot climbing center, 11 element low-ropes challenge course, a first year pre-orientation wilderness program (Project Explore), equipment and gear rental program, outdoor trip leader training program, and any other outdoor recreation programming for the university community. Create, implement and supervise a variety of organized and informal outdoor recreation programs for the TU community based on current and established outdoor recreation trends, principles, guidelines, and risk management principles related to campus recreation outdoor adventure-based programming. Oversee all operational aspects of outdoor recreation facilities, risk management, and equipment to meet the growing needs of the campus community. Implement the annual equipment replacement plan as needed.Plan, administer, assess and promote the Outdoor Adventure Center and Glen Challenge Course. Recruit, hire train and directly supervise 50-60 climbing wall staff and 10 teambuilding instructors. Collaborate with Events and Conference Services on climbing wall and challenge course program offerings for external groups; oversee and manage all risk management policies and procedures related to outdoor recreation climbing wall, challenge course, equipment usage, facility operations and staff trainings. Promote adaptive recreation programs and community outreach efforts.Provide direction and support for the Coordinator- Outdoor Programs and the Graduate Assistant- Outdoor Adventures; recruit, hire, train approximately 50-60 outdoor adventure student staff and directly supervise Teambuilding Instructors, Climbing Wall staff; and develop and coordinate monthly in-service training sessions for student staff. Provide budgetary oversight for all outdoor adventures operations; including student payroll, operational expenses and programmatic revenue generation. Manage monthly payroll procedures for all responsible student and non-student staff positions including timesheet approval, and monthly reporting. Monitor all expenses related to procurement card purchases, preventative maintenance and services invoices. Manage all programmatic fee collection and revenue generation for outdoor recreation programs. Provide monthly and/or annual budget reports on all program area budgets to departmental Administrative (budget) Associate. Provide annual budget request and adhere to allocated funds for each fiscal year.Work in accordance with Associate Director, Programs & Assessment on overseeing program related assessment procedures associated with departmental learning outcomes and key performance indicators. Provide annual assessment data collection and reports to support departmental assessment plan. Ensure programs are culturally competent, inclusive, and accessible to diverse student populations.


Qualifications and Skills
Required:

    Bachelor's degreeTwo years of professional experience in outdoor recreation related programming (two years of graduate assistant experience will count as one year of professional experience).Demonstrated supervisory experience in managing a diverse outdoor recreation program to include programming, facility management and staffing preferably in a campus recreation setting.Demonstrated ability performing technical skills and instructing activities associated with outdoor recreation related to rock climbing, kayaking, wilderness first aid, experiential education, and team building.Demonstrated ability to facilitate outdoor recreation instructional classes, workshops, clinics, and special events including team building and participant debrief of outdoor excursions.
Preferred:

    Bachelor s degree in recreation/sport management or related field.Master's degree in recreation, sport, leisure management or related field.CPR/AED and First Aid Professional Rescue Instructor certified.PCIA (Professional Climbing Instructor s Association), AMGI CWI (American Mountain Guides Association - Climbing Wall Instructor), and/or ACCT (Association for Challenge Course Technology) Practitioner certification(s).Experience working in a collegiate recreation environment.Wilderness First Responder Certification (WFR).Demonstrated supervisory experience in managing an outdoor trips or low ropes challenge course program, preferably in a campus recreation setting.
