Position Description: This position will provide blast and debris analysis support to the Aerosciences branch (EV33) in the Structural Design and Analysis Division (EV30) at the MSFCs Spacecraft and Vehicle Systems Department as a member and Blast and Debris team. Blast and Debris team is involved in research, analysis, test, and modeling as well as quantifying lethality, survivability, or vulnerability and will perform the full rigor of an engineering analysis requiring clear problem identification, evaluation of alternatives, and analytical assessments as necessary to evaluate alternatives. Responsibilities: Specific support to be provided includes, but is not limited to, the following: Perform engineering analyses and apply physics-based models for the prediction of thermal environments, blast and debris environments, pressure vessel ruptures, and propellant explosions. Support the designing, testing, and measuring explosive environments including blast waves and high-speed imagery for the development of empirical blast and fragmentation models is preferred. Process/analyze/report on the explosion data collected during explosives assessment tests. Develop/validate/maintain advanced CFD/hydrocode modeling capabilities for explosion events. Prepare and present modeling and test results to technical teams and review boards. Develop and deliver analysis products, documents, presentations, and action item responses. Participate in reviews, meetings, teleconferences, and working groups. Communicate issues, best practices, lessons-learned and other technical positions related to debris analysis and tests. Identify, describe, and communicate potential risks. Deliver project briefings to all levels of management. Provide clear and effective communications with internal and external partners and stakeholders. Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%) Qualifications: A degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or related discipline is required. A degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS in with at least 25 years (or MS with 22+ years or PhD with 19+ years) of relevant experience. Significant experience performing CFD simulations for Aerospace applications such as rocket exhaust plumes, cryogenic propellant tanks, and valves. Experience in applying physics-based models for engineering analysis. Held lead type roles such as modeling & simulation lead or chief engineer. In depth knowledge of performing blast/acoustic analysis for rocket propulsion test/launch services. Experience with CFD tools such as Loci/CHEM, Loci-Stream, and Pointwise. In depth knowledge of combustion/blast modeling tools such as NASA CEA and CONWEP. Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++ or MATLAB and their application to modeling and simulation. Knowledge of space vehicle design, functions, terminology, interfaces, technical disciplines, and system design. Experience with command line interfaces and the Linux operating system. Self-motivated, proactive, and effective team players with customer relations skills, familiar with working in a dynamic work environment. Ability to perform tasks requiring focus and attention to detail and completed within prescribed organizational schedules. Ability to be flexible and easily refocus on tasks when task directions or requirements change. Ability to interface and collaborate with all levels of engineering and project management with the ability to lead and influence for consensus. Demonstrated experience building strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders, organizing, and facilitating meetings/technical discussions. Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams & Outlook) are required. Excellent written and oral technical communication skills, with the ability to clearly define and describe a technical subject to peers across various engineering disciplines. Demonstrated experience developing and delivering program-level briefings and capability to communicate with program level stakeholders and partners. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
