About the ACCC:
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is at the forefront of key initiatives aimed at enhancing consumer protection, fostering competition and fair trading. The roles of the ACCC span merger control, competition and consumer law enforcement, infrastructure regulation, promotion of product safety, key market inquiries including East Coast Gas, Digital Platforms and Supermarkets, and digital regulation through scam prevention and disruption, Digital ID and the Consumer Data Right regulation. Amidst evolving economic conditions, we require a leader who can navigate complex regulatory landscapes and help shape the future of our organisation.
About the Role:
As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will work closely with the Chair and Commissioners to deliver on the ACCC's statutory purpose and strategic priorities. You will provide leadership of the ACCC's organisation and collaborate with senior executives to ensure the agency operates effectively, efficiently, and dynamically.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing the Chair and Commissioners with strategic information, management advice and reports to help inform decisions.
- Leadership of the ACCC's operations, including organisational governance, financial and human resource management, information technology and data analytical capability and maturity, project and change management, strategic communications, corporate regulation and resource allocation.
- Guiding agency wide initiatives and efficiencies and collaborating with senior executives to achieve operational objectives and ensure annual budgets and divisional plans are adequately funded, delivered and effective.
- Fostering a working environment that enables excellence, innovation and appropriate risk taking, supporting and developing the ACCC's highly skilled, engaged and purpose-motivated staff and positive culture.
- Operational and organisational risk management, formulating strategies for managing and mitigating risks within the agreed risk appetite.
- Engaging with domestic peer agencies and Government departments; Parliamentary committees; the Government and Parliament more broadly; and international stakeholders.
Selection Criteria:
To be successful in the role you will have:
- Executive-level management experience and a proven track record of leadership within a dynamic, complex, and multifaceted public or private sector environment.
- Proven ability to manage performance against budget, lead organisational and cultural change, and drive innovation.
- A public policy mindset and preferably, knowledge of competition and consumer issues.
- A deep understanding of, and alignment to, the purpose and values of the ACCC.
