This unit presents an excellent chance to engage with the diagnosis and management of a diverse range of neonatal surgical conditions and congenital anomalies. Additionally, the PCH NICU handles the majority of outborn infants requiring neonatal intensive care.
- Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS WA), situated at PCH, is intricately involved in the retrieval and transport of ill newborns from both metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. Covering the largest geographical area in the world for a single neonatal retrieval service; retrieving by road, helicopter, and fixed wing aircraft. Opportunities also exist for participation in the retrieval and transfer of cardiac patients to children's hospitals in Melbourne and Brisbane.
- KEMH Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, situated in Subiaco, stands as the largest tertiary/quaternary perinatal NICU in Australia. Approximately 2,200 babies who are born preterm, need respiratory support or require other intensive treatment are admitted to the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) NICU each year.
The CAHS Neonatology Directorate offers an enriching experience that contributes to the well-being of newborns and young children, while also providing valuable learning and growth for medical professionals.
