About the role

This is a newly created role joining the Company Secretary and Regulation team of Ampol's Legal Department focusing on Regulation, Compliance and Company Secretary activities.

In this role, you will provide legal and compliance advice in respect of regulatory requirements associated with business activities, and support interactions with regulatory bodies. Additionally, you will provide support on Company Secretary activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage matters related to compliance and regulation from the business
  • Provide accurate and timely legal advice, policy governance and quality assurance in respect of key business policies and guidelines.
  • Monitor legislative/regulatory changes and provision of advice to proactively identify issues which may impact strategy, operational issues or business processes
  • Review policy submissions, reports and responses to the government
  • Maintain appropriate corporate governance including reviewing corporate governance policies and procedures practices
  • Monitor and maintain Secretariat inbox and respond to external enquiries

About you

You will have sound attention to detail in drafting, with a solutions-driven and commercial approach to practice. As a trusted advisor, you will proactively build relationships with the business to educate and mitigate risks. You will be skilled in Compliance and Regulation with an interest in learning and owning Company Secretary activities.

Key skills and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in law with current legal practising certificate.
  • Minimum 1-3 Year post qualified experience (PQE) in practice, ideally in a top tier or medium tier law firm or as a corporate lawyer for a medium-sized or large business.
  • Desirable: In-house experience (Direct or secondment)
  • Desirable: Understanding of the Corporations Act, corporate governance principles and their practical application
