Data Scientist - 12 Months Contract - Sydney - Data Science - Python Logistics company looking for a Data Scientist on a contract basis.
About the Company Our client is a leading logistics company, managing the efficient movement of goods across Australia. This role sits within the data team, leveraging data science to optimise resource allocation and enhance operational efficiency.
About the Role As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for improving forecasting models that predict the volume of goods being transported across Australia. These forecasts are essential for resource planning and operational efficiency, ensuring seamless logistics operations. Reporting to senior stakeholders, you will also have opportunities to contribute to other data science initiatives within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities - Develop and enhance forecasting models to predict the volume of goods moving through terminals.
- Apply statistical and machine learning regression techniques to optimise resource allocation.
- Work closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into data-driven solutions.
- Write clean, efficient Python and SQL code for data analysis and model development.
- Potentially contribute to other data science projects within the organisation.
Skills & Experience Required - Degree in Data Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or Applied Physics.
- Strong understanding of time series forecasting and causal inference.
- Experience with Python and SQL in applied business or research problems.
- Ability to engage effectively with end users and stakeholders.
- Quick learner, capable of acquiring new skills and technologies on the job.
Desirable - Experience with AWS technologies (EC2, S3, Redshift, SageMaker).
- Knowledge of Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
- Understanding of scalable algorithms, clean coding practices, and unit testing.
- Experience working with Linux and shell scripting.
Contract Details - Duration: 12 months with the potential for a 12-month extension.
- Day rate: Around $1,000 a day (room for negotiation).
