This position is an 'Identified' position which signifies that the role has a strong involvement in issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The successful applicant must have an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People.


Who we are
The Heritage Division works to conserve, protect and sustainably manage Australia's biodiversity, heritage, oceans and First Nations heritage. We work to make the environment and our heritage better for current and future generations. We contribute to improving the extent, condition and connectivity of Australia's and the region's unique environment, consistent with national and international obligations. Working with others, we help identify, protect, conserve and celebrate Australia's significant natural, First Nations and historic heritage.


The First Nations Heritage Protection Branch is a focal point for First Nations Heritage protection matters. We develop and implement policies, programs and regulations for the protection of First Nations cultural heritage. We administer legislation for the protection of significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander places and objects through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act 1984 (Cth) (ATSIHP Act).

Eligibility and other requirements

Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

Security Clearance - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
