We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our team as an electrical design engineer that capable of customer facing business development conversations. In this role, you will be responsible for creating innovative electrical system designs to solve unique customer challenges around onsite power generation solutions that operate in island mode or connected to the grip. The projects will vary in size and complexity from a simple cycle large gas reciprocating generators to a 500MW combined cycle power plant, and everything in between.
This role combines engineering expertise with meticulous estimating skills to ensure the efficient and cost-effective design and construction of power plants, and the associated grid-synchronous switchgear and utility interconnects. The engineer will be responsible for concept development, design, and estimating the turnkey cost of projects that include various components and systems within power plants. The engineer will also be responsible for customer meetings and presentations along the executive and business development teams.

Our culture thrives on ingenuity and collaboration, where passion and trust are felt throughout its team members. Come join this team of all-star problem solvers as we work to deliver energy solutions for a brighter tomorrow!

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conceptual Design: Develop designs for natural gas fired power plant projects that utilize combustion turbine and large reciprocating generator technology with grid synchronous switchgear and potentially integrating renewable resources like solar and BESS. This involves understanding requirements, technical specifications, and regulatory standards to propose optimal equipment selection and design solutions.
  • Detailed Engineering: Conduct detailed engineering analysis and design, create single line diagrams, general arrangement, controls schematics, and other drawings as necessary for power plant components, systems, and infrastructure, including controls integration, sequence of operations, low, medium and high voltage switchgear, utility (gas and electric) interconnection. Also, selecting appropriate equipment, materials, and technologies to meet performance, reliability, and operational parameters.
  • Estimating: Prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for power plant projects, considering factors such as material costs, labor expenses, equipment procurement, construction timelines, and project risks. Continuously refine estimates throughout sales cycle based on evolving requirements and market conditions; incorporates requirements and historical costs into a feedback loop to continuously improve estimating accuracy.
  • Technical Documentation: Generate technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for power plant designs and estimates. Ensure all documentation complies with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Sales Support: Work with the executive, sales and business development teams in conversations with customers, perform site walks at customer facilities to aid in solution development, and help generate content to support sales team in customer discussions/presentations. Have the ability to speak to all levels of the customer organizations from senior leaders to junior engineers.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and uncertainties associated with power plant estimates and projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize their impact. This includes evaluating technical, financial, and regulatory risks and incorporating risk management principles into project planning and execution.
  • Innovation and Optimization: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, best practices, and industry trends in power generation and engineering design. Continuously seek opportunities to innovate, optimize design processes, and enhance project outcomes in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including sales team, clients, vendors, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project teams. Provide technical expertise, address inquiries, and facilitate collaborative decision-making to ensure project success.

  • Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
    • Extensive experience in power plant engineering, design, and estimating, preferably in roles related to thermal power combined-cycle plants, combustion turbines and reciprocating generators.
    • Proficiency in engineering software tools such as AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management abilities.
    • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASME, IEEE, NEC, EPA).
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainability principles in engineering practice.
    • Ability to travel occasionally on short notice.

    Preferred Skills:
    • Knowledge of the energy industry and retail electric provider business operations with an emphasis on customer operations.
    • Experience with integration of electrical systems to mission critical loads such as data centers.
    • Experience with Electric Utility Integration
