The role

As the Environmental Officer you will be responsible for taking environmental assessments of detailed and complex mining/petroleum proposal applications as required, native vegetation clearing applications, providing specialist/technical advice to the department's Executive, minerals and energy sector, general public and industry organisations in relation to environmental legislation and policies. Additionally, this role is also responsible for preparing reports, documents and correspondence related to complex environmental assessments, making decisions and recommendations as required, carrying out the duties of an inspector and undertaking inspections/compliance assessments of mining/petroleum operations to monitor for compliance with legislative requirements of the industry.

Your assistance in the mentoring and coaching of less experienced staff members as required, preparing technical advice and assisting in drafting guidance material for industry and other stakeholders, participating in divisional training programs relevant to the position, and experience in preparation of responses to ministerial and parliamentary questions will be key to your success in this role.
