About the role

As a Head of Research Operations you will report to the Chief Scientific Officer to removes obstacles and roadblocks to execution, advise various research leaders and bench scientists on strategic initiatives and advise the CSO on challenges in real time.
What you'll do
- Develop and implement the overall research strategy in alignment with the Sana's research goals and objectives.
- Lead and manage a team for vivarium operations, GCP operations, as well as translational sciences staff as needed to provide guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of research projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the research team.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders for our technology licenses and SRAs, including academic institutions and industry partners.
- Monitor and analyze research trends, advancements, and competitive activities to inform strategic decision-making.
- Prepare and present reports, proposals, and updates to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Manage the research budget, including resource allocation and financial planning.
- Represent the organization at conferences, seminars, and other professional events.
- Chief of Staff activities for Research Heads
- Budget business planning and reforecast, including ad hoc adjustments and reprioritizations throughout the year.
- Annual goal generation and prioritization.
- Contract lifecycle management - SRAs, MTAs, MSAs, CDAs, consultants.
- Support LTs as needed.
- Business Development support, including development of plans with ARMI for beta cell manufacturing.
- License lifecycle management - milestone timing changes, renegotiation, termination.
- PM for research and IND teams, and cross-functional initiatives as needed.
- Cambridge GCP operations management, including Veeva administration and reconciliation, and GCP data transfer support.
- Cambridge vivarium operations.
- Cambridge Flow Core operations.
- Literature management.
- Engage in crucial conversations by providing and receiving feedback supporting the growth and development of team members
- Demonstrate ability to engage and effectively influence team members across multidisciplinary teams while prioritizing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Drive curiosity, scientific rigor and excellent problem-solving skills across a fast-paced performance driven environment
- Innate ability to assess talent that will help grow the organization and add to Sana's culture
What we're looking for
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in a relevant field such as life sciences, engineering, or social sciences.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in research management or a related role, with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
- Strong understanding of research methodologies, project management, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire research teams to achieve ambitious goals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with budget management and financial planning.
- Commitment to ethical research practices and continuous professional development.

- Strong scientific acumen in a pre clinical and clinical biotech or pharmaceutical company

What you should know
- The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $280,000 and $350,000 annually however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
