The Department of Health is seeking a Family Violence Counsellor to join the Family Violence Counselling and Support Services - Child and Young Person Program (CHYPP). Join a passionate, dynamic, and supportive team in providing counselling and support to children, young people, and their families who have experienced family violence.

The role:

  • Assist children and young people to recover from their experience of family violence trauma through the delivery of evidence-based and family violence trauma-informed therapeutic counselling and support. This will include a range of developmental and age-appropriate techniques and tools within a counselling/therapeutic setting.
  • Contribute to and participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of group programs.
  • Provide information and support, referral, and advice to clients and other service providers.
  • Assess and monitor the ongoing needs of the children and young people who access the service in relation to safety and stability in the context of family violence.
  • Identify, develop, provide, or purchase the services required to meet the needs of children and families. Provide support and input to the child's care team, parents/carers, and other professionals where necessary.

Details of Appointment: Allied Health Professional, Level 1-2

Permanent, part-time, day worker position working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Notwithstanding, hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full-time and part-time vacancies.

Salary: $71,441 to $107,878 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You'll have access to salary packaging and a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022.

Essential Criteria:

  • Satisfactory completion of an approved allied health professional tertiary qualification/program of study and registered with the relevant National Board or, in the case of self-regulated allied health professions, with either full membership or eligible for membership with the relevant professional association.
  • Current Working with Children Registration.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Current Driver's Licence.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  • sex-related offences
  • serious drug offences
  • crimes involving dishonesty
