Job Description

Family Worker role is part of the Walgett Indigenous Parenting Service, a project funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency through the Indigenous Advancement Strategy. This initiative focuses on nurturing the educational outcomes of Indigenous children aged birth to 12 years in Walgett and Gulargambone communities. Working within a holistic approach, you will support families to improve their children's early development, school readiness, and overall wellbeing. About the Role:

This Family Worker is situated within the MacKillop Rural unit which provides:

  1. Family support and supported playgroups
  2. Parenting and early childhood education services
  3. Counselling and support to young people who are vulnerable and at risk of homelessness
  4. Early childhood intervention to people with a disability

This is an ongoing Part-time (20 hours a week) opportunity based in Walgett (NSW) within our Indigenous Parenting Service / MacKillop Rural Program. The position reports to the Program Manager.

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  1. Qualifications in Community Services or relevant discipline and/or relevant work or life experience
  2. A knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values and an awareness of the current issues faced by Aboriginal children, young people and their families
  3. Effective verbal and written communication skills
  4. Ability to run group activities based on local need
