The role

As the Investigator, you will conduct investigations in relation to matters raised under legislation administered by Consumer Protection and where appropriate compile briefs of evidence for use in any court or tribunal. You will also provide advice on investigations, offences and non-compliance matters.

You will analyse complaints, prepare investigation plans, and gather evidence from relevant sources through appropriate means, such as collecting witness statements, executing search warrants and conducting records of interviews. You will assess the information received to identify potential offences or instances of non-compliance under applicable laws. Additionally, you will prepare high quality, factual written material in the form of letters, briefing notes, and investigation reports in line with Departmental standards containing sustainable recommendations for the consideration of the Commissioner for Consumer Protection in relation to assessments or investigative outcomes, including criminal, disciplinary or civil proceedings.

Your success in this role will rely on your expertise in conducting methodical investigations, along with your strong oral and written communication skills. You will also demonstrate proficiency in interpreting, analysing and applying legislation to identify non-compliance.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.
