Position Description: The Navigation Engineer will be supporting two projects. First, this role will support the SLS Navigation team by contributing to the maintenance and improvement of the in-house navigation algorithms, inertial sensor models, and data processing scripts. This involves developing a detailed understanding of how navigation sensors interface with flight computers and software. Additionally, this role will aid in telemetry calculations and modeling. This role will also support the Spacecraft/Payload Integration and Evolution (SPIE) team with performing various navigation analyses while also preparing and delivering results to the SPIE team. Common to both the SLS Navigation and SPIE teams, this role will be involved in downloading data from Hardware in the Loop test data as well as Artemis flight data in support of updating/maintain the teams Day of Launch displays and post-flight data analysis. Successful candidates are self-motivated and work well with others. As part of both teams, you will collaborate with other members of the team. This includes opportunities for mentoring and professional development. Qualifications: A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is required. A degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Educational requirements are the equivalent of a PhD or MS with 3 or more years of experience or a BS with 5 years or more of experience. Required skills and experience: Knowledge of data acquisition systems, signal generators, and similar systems Strong analytical capabilities Strong proficiency in Python Proficiency in technical writing, communication, and presentation. Desired skills and experience: Strong proficiency with C/C++ is especially helpful for this role. Familiarity with MATLAB is also desired. Experience with version control software and processes such as SVN or GitHub Knowledge of Monte Carlo, design of experiments, and statistical analysis Experience with telemetry processing and display tools, e.g., from hardware-in-the-loop testing or flight data processing Experience with inertial sensors models as well as models of integrated navigation systems, including Kalman filtering. Knowledge of coordinate frame transformations (e.g., cartesian coordinates to/from orbital elements, Earth-fixed to/from inertial coordinates). Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
