The Role

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, this role is responsible for developing and implementing a major gift fundraising program across the CGS community, in alignment with strategic objectives and will work collaboratively with others to successfully deliver and support CGS giving programs. The Philanthropy Manager will play a crucial role in actively managing a personal portfolio of prospective and current donors to secure major gifts for buildings, scholarships, and other relevant philanthropic campaigns to maximise the philanthropic income and reach for CGS.

This is a 2-year fixed-term position, offering part-time hours at 3-4 days per week. The days are flexible, but the role requires onsite presence and is based at the Caulfield Campus with some regular travel to other campuses as required. Occasionally, evening work may be required 1-2 times per term.

Key Duties

  • Collaborate with the Director of Philanthropy to develop and implement a major gift program for CGS, focusing on growing philanthropic income from major gifts, campaigns, and bequests.
  • Develop and manage a prospect list of around 60 major gift prospects, particularly from Malvern and Wheelers Hill campuses, and create tailored engagement plans for each donor.
  • Actively manage a portfolio of 60+ major gift prospects annually, ensuring effective donor research, relations, and stewardship, and support key strategic initiatives to grow internal ambassadors.
  • Work with volunteers, the Foundation Board, and project sub-committees to cultivate and solicit major gifts, while ensuring appropriate recognition and stewardship.
  • Prepare regular reports on progress, and coordinate the planning and delivery of major gift events and campaigns.
  • Contribute to alumni and donor engagement, collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Team on communications strategies, and manage relevant updates and database requirements.
  • Assist in organizing functions for major gift fundraising, attend key events, and foster positive relationships within the CGS community.
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts, with a track record of managing philanthropic programs and delivering successful outcomes, ideally in education.
  • Strong skills in influencing, negotiating, and communicating with major donors, along with excellent written and verbal communication for managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Exceptional organizational, presentation, and campaign/project coordination skills.
  • Membership of Educate Plus, Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and/or Fundraising Institute Australia (FIA) will be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, the education sector will be highly regarded.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience and current Victorian driver's licence.
  • Hold or willing to obtain an Employment Working With Children Check.
