With a strong pipeline of work in Southern Australia & New Zealand, we currently have an exciting opportunity in Adelaide for an Principal Environmental Scientist to join our Contaminated Land Assessment and Remediation Section.

As a Principal Environmental Scientist in the Contaminated Land Assessment and Remediation Section, you will take an active role in leading the delivery of projects. This will include technical guidance for more junior staff in supporting the successful execution of field sampling programs and contamination assessment report writing. You will seek to provide mentoring to more junior staff in relation to the broad skills required of a consultant, both technical and softer skills. You will take an active role in business development, responsible for building client relationships that secure repeat work and new work that supports your own personal pipeline as well as that of others in the team. More specifically, this role will include the following tasks:

  • Planning and execution of moderate to complex projects, providing technical guidance to support others, performing project management and client-facing roles as appropriate.
  • In-depth knowledge of the regulatory framework and technical elements of the contaminated land sector within your State or Territory, and familiarity with corresponding elements in other regions.
  • Leading simple and moderately complex pursuits as appropriate and providing support as a bid team member for the pursuit of more complex opportunities.
  • Collaborating with other Sections to help deliver successful project outcomes for our clients and supporting the broader section by providing informal leadership.

Here's what you'll need:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology, or Hydrogeology.
  • Extensive work experience in consulting, particularly within the field of contaminated land assessment, or prior involvement in preparing technical reports.
  • An appreciation of other environmental consultancy disciplines e.g., ecology, hydrogeology, hydrology, soil science, and cultural heritage.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget, while leading and motivating teams to exceed client expectations.
  • Experience in training and mentoring junior staff while providing substantial project management support to the team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and familiarity with videoconferencing practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and a desire to learn and develop technical skills relevant to contaminated land assessment.
