The Opportunity We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Power System Engineer (Integration and Strategy) to join our team. This critical role will provide technical leadership and expertise in power system integration, performance, and long-term planning. You will be a thought leader, driving innovation and ensuring our network meets current and future customer needs while maintaining resilient performance. This includes leading the integration of power system augmentations, proactively managing customer connections, and shaping long-term planning strategies.
You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including AEMO and other Network Service Providers, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (NER) and drive effective power system solutions. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the evolution of our network and contribute to a high-performing team. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading power system integration of augmentations, ensuring regulatory compliance and managing all project phases.
- Providing expert advice on customer connections, evaluating proposals and managing technical assessments.
- Developing and implementing long-term power system planning strategies, including scenario planning and reporting.
- Managing stakeholder relationships, effectively communicating with internal and external partners, including AEMO.
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship, fostering a high-performing team and driving innovation in power system solutions.
About You The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented individual with a proven track record in power systems engineering. You will possess:
- Extensive Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering roles, demonstrating expertise in complex power system environments.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of National Electricity Rules (NER), ESCOSA, OTR, and AEMO Guidelines. Expert knowledge of power system ratings, asset lifecycle management, and substation/transmission system components. Proficiency in power system analysis tools (PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerFactory, etc.).
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and influence decision-making. Experience in managing projects and coordinating teams.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
- Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline is essential. Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia or a professional association is also essential.
