How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne:

The Senior Adviser is a pivotal role which collaborates with all members of the Office of the Chief Executive Officer to provide support and high-quality strategic advice. This position will actively enhance the effectiveness and delivery of CEO priorities and the business objectives of the City of Melbourne. These priorities are a mix of internal strategic organisational development priorities, adjacent to supporting the organisation to deliver on the objectives in the Council Plan and other strategic frameworks.

The Senior Advisor position functions as an expert guide providing support to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Leadership Team and team members from across the organisation recommending strategies, assisting with decision-making, and refining accepted practices to ensure maximum effectiveness and results for council.

What you will bring (Selection Criteria):

  • Proven experience in effectively managing complex issues within a highly reactive and complex environment coupled with your experience in media and communications;
  • Proven ability to analyse complex, politically sensitive information and formulate measured responses;
  • Influencing and negotiation skills with demonstrated experience in achieving effective business outcomes;
  • High level communication skills (verbal/written) with the ability to use discretion and judgement in a complex environment;
  • High level analytical and lateral thinking skills with the ability to operate autonomously and take initiative;
  • High level experience in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders at all levels and a sound understanding of stakeholder needs.
