Job Details
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the overall financial health and reporting of the company. This position will oversee accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry, strong leadership skills, and expertise in Sage construction accounting software.
Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our finance team in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, job costing, and financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely financial records. This role will be responsible for overseeing general ledger activities, financial statement preparation, budgeting, and compliance, while also assisting with process improvements and supporting project teams with financial insights.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & General Accounting:
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Manage general ledger activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals.
Assist in month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Work closely with auditors during internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Construction Accounting & Job Costing:
Maintain and monitor job cost reports, ensuring proper allocation of costs to projects.
Reconcile construction-in-progress (CIP) accounts and ensure timely capitalization.
Assist project managers in budget tracking, variance analysis, and cost forecasting.
Ensure compliance with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting standards when applicable.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight:
Review subcontractor invoices, progress billings, and retainage payments for accuracy and compliance.
Work with project teams to ensure timely collection of accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
Ensure compliance with lien waivers, contracts, and payment terms.
Cash Flow & Budgeting:
Support cash flow forecasting by analyzing accounts payable, receivables, and project schedules.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial projections.
Provide financial insights to senior management on profitability, cost control, and operational efficiencies.
Compliance & Process Improvement:
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, construction-specific accounting standards, and company policies.
Assist in WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting and monitor backlog reporting.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy.
