About the Opportunity

We have an exciting new opportunity to join Metcash as a Senior Legal Counsel. This role will be responsible for the provision of legal advice and support in respect of data, digital and privacy (including artificial intelligence) for the Metcash Group.

We have flexibility to consider this role full time or part time (4 days per week).

In this Role

  1. Providing legal advice and support (advisory, commercial and disputes) relating to Data, Digital and Privacy across all pillars, business units and corporate functions.
  2. Supporting the Head of Legal - Data, Digital and Privacy with identifying, and supporting the Metcash Group to understand, legal, compliance and regulatory risks and obligations.
  3. Supporting the Metcash Group to mitigate such risks and manage / operate in compliance with those obligations around Data, Digital and Privacy.
  4. Assisting with projects, programs of work or initiatives (or the Data, Digital and Privacy aspects of such projects, programs and initiatives).
  5. Staying abreast of legal, compliance and regulatory developments relating to Data, Digital and Privacy and preparing relevant communications for the Metcash Group.
  6. Developing precedent documents in connection with Data, Digital and Privacy.

You're Likely a Match If

  1. LLB (or equivalent).
  2. 5+ years PQE in private practice and/or in-house roles.
  3. Excellent contract, transactional and general commercial/advisory legal skills.
  4. Expertise in the legal and regulatory landscape in Australia in relation to areas of law, regulation and compliance obligations on Data, Digital and Privacy (new and existing).
  5. Ability to engage, influence and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders.
  6. Responsive, outcome focused and ability to manage multiple priorities.
