This role is crucial to the safe and efficient operation of Darling Downs Power Station located in Kogan, Western Downs Region.

About the role:

Reporting to the Darling Downs Power Station Manager, The Site Chemist will be responsible for the chemistry and environmental activities associated with the operation and maintenance of the Darling Downs Power Station.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) legislation, policies, and procedures while actively contributing to Origin Energy's HSE systems.
  • Oversee the steam and water cycle chemistry, chemical programs, and maintenance of laboratory and field equipment, including Reverse Osmosis and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Provide expert chemistry advice, support plant operations, lead the site chemical technician, and contribute to chemical plant modifications and upgrades.
  • Manage the procurement, distribution, and regulatory compliance of all chemicals, including maintaining the Hazardous Materials and SDS registers.
  • Co-ordinate environmental monitoring, reporting, and compliance requirements for the Power Station.
  • Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives for processes, systems, and work practices.

Is this you?

  • Science, Industrial Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Degree.
  • Extensive and proven experience in the power industry in a station/heavy industry chemistry role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy.
  • Operation, maintenance and optimisation of water treatment and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Implementation and optimisation of boiler and chemical dosing, sampling, and monitoring regimes.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplined team.
