POSITION DESCRIPTION


POSITION TITLE: Superintendent 2nd Shift

EFFECTIVE DATE: 2025

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager LOCATION: Canonsburg, PA

DEPARTMENT: Production STATUS: Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

As a Superintendent, you will lead a committed team of Supervisors and ensure flawless execution of the production plan. You will provide leadership, direction, and guidance to supervisors and the unionized workforce in designated production. Define the daily schedule in concert with the master schedule


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent has the responsibility to align with organizational goals and employee needs.

  • Facilitate pass-down sheets by group for off-shift associates or group leaders.
  • Review initial labor estimates for accuracy.
  • Work with the Manager of Production and Planning to schedule jobs.
  • Recommend overtime when necessary to meet schedule demands.
  • Monitor employee efficiency.
  • Facilitate the development of manufacturing methods (checklists).
  • Handle distribution of documents into the work area.
  • Ensure required equipment in the area is maintained and calibrated if necessary.
  • Oversee training programs on manufacturing methods and skill sets.
  • Participate in root cause analysis meetings regarding non-conformances.
  • Facilitate incoming inspection is complete within the area.
  • Uphold company policies.
  • Handle disciplinary issues with the manager per company policies.
  • Ensure clean facilities and equipment within the work area.
  • Reports before shift change to determine status and set daily schedule.
  • All other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Relevant experience in Medium and Large Power Transformer Manufacturing
  • Must be able to work on complex work assignments.
  • Has contributory or shared decision impact.
  • Must have good communication skills - oral and written.
  • Good computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office, programming

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, or a related field OR
  • 7+ years of experience in production management, or a related role.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong technical expertise in manufacturing processes
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills


PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Previous work in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Power Systems/ Programmable Logic Controller/ Intelligent Electronics Course


PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS

Lifting/carrying/moving 1-60lbs. work in extreme hot and cold weather, must stand for long periods, will be exposed to loud noise levels, and operate hand and power tools. Work in an environment with dirt, grease, and dust. Manual dexterity to operate specialized equipment. Ability to hear telephone conversations and speak clearly. May need a high level of concentration in a busy area.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a Monday through Friday position. Some overtime and on-call are required.
