About the Y

Our Youth and Community Service workers empower and inspire our young visitors, providing them with a safe space to grow, learn and have their voice heard. Our team works tirelessly to create meaningful opportunities for young people experiencing disadvantage. As part of The Y family, you will be responsible for the care and safety of our young community and impact their physical, mental, and social wellbeing for the better. In return, we will support you to build valuable people, leadership, and life skills while working with people in need, from the comfort of our dynamic recreation facilities.

If you are ready to engage and inspire the next generation of young people, join us for a rewarding and exciting career that is all about creating life-changing memories for those who need it most.

About the role

The successful candidate will support our 'Streetgym' initiative, providing young people (12 to 18 years old) with opportunities to engage in activities in their own neighbourhood and work on personal, social, and educational development aspects of their lives.

You will also support the delivery of Alternative Suspension, a program addressing educational disengagement and establishing ongoing support pathways for students currently on, or at risk of, school suspension.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering programs and activities that promote the well-being and growth of youth in the Broken Hill community, including:

  1. Developing and implementing engaging programs and activities.
  2. Providing individual and group support to young people, addressing their needs and concerns.
  3. Fostering a safe and inclusive environment where all youth feel valued and respected.
  4. Collaborating with other professionals, such as schools, local councils, and community organisations, to provide comprehensive support.
  5. Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and making necessary adjustments.
  6. Maintaining accurate records and documentation of youth participation and progress.
  7. Advocating for the rights and needs of young people within the community.

About you

Your passion is to positively impact young people's lives by helping them navigate challenges and achieve their potential. You do this by creating supportive communities and fostering a sense of belonging among young people.

Minimum qualifications include:

  1. Formal qualifications in Youth Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  2. Previous experience working with youth in a community or school setting.
  3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to build positive relationships with young people and their families.
  5. Knowledge of issues affecting youth, such as mental health and wellbeing.
  6. Experience in program development and evaluation.
  7. First Aid and CPR certification.
  8. Licence and access to own vehicle.

This is a truly rewarding opportunity to leverage the Y's Streetgym initiative to deliver critical youth work in the Broken Hill community. Apply today to find out more.
